Access to and availability of advisers remains one of the most important needs for the College of Letters and Science (L&S). As our student population has increased, the demand for advising has far outpaced supply.
Challenge: In Fall 2019, there were 23,299 students enrolled in L&S. With a current staff of 29 College Advisers (our largest yet!), the ratio of L&S students to L&S College Advisers is still >804:1
Vision: Leverage academic and enrollment data to better identify and engage students at the outset of academic difficulty. We could then proactively provide support services, rather than waiting for students to seek help.
Solution: A Data Science Approach to Advising initiative.
Invest in the Undergraduate Advising Fund today to make a significant positive impact on thousands of UC Berkeley undergraduate students.
