Join us in making an impact

A pioneer in the development and advancement of asphalt technology and design, Carl was a giant in his field. His immense impact spanned the mentoring of 37 doctoral students and dozens of master’s students, and the authorship of 492 influential papers. His academic and professional footprint was eclipsed only by his kindness. Carl led by example: humble, respectful, and meticulously prepared, teaching the critical importance of the “test of engineering reasonableness” and the essential link between research and practice.
Help us reach the $250,000 threshold needed to convert the Carl L. Monismith Legacy Endowment into a prestigious Graduate Fellowship for Civil and Environmental Engineering students. If total giving does not reach $250,000, it will remain a generous endowment supporting the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Gifts may be made online, by check (including IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions), or other means. For questions or direct support, please contact Leah Katz Ahmadi, Engineering College Relations, at lkahmadi@berkeley.edu.
In order to preserve the spirit of the purpose of the fund, and the intent of the original donors who established it, new donors who make gifts to this endowment are advised that changes may be made to the Fund in the future. Any future changes will be consistent with the original purpose as written here. As such, new donors agree upon making their gifts that any future potential change to the endowment purpose may be made without their consultation.
Our initial online fundraising drive has ended, but we continue to grow the fund to honor Carl Monismith. Information is available on giving by check or other means or, for questions, contact Berkeley Engineering, 510.642.2487 or bef@berkeley.edu.
