Black Lives @ Cal (BLAC) is a dynamic, multi-year research initiative to celebrate, defend, and advance Black history at UC Berkeley.
BLAC uses qualitative methods to investigate, record, and preserve the lived experiences, struggles, and accomplishments of Black Cal students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This research will be dynamically presented in novel ways, such as a website and interactive visuals (e.g. timeline, maps, exhibits) so that prospective, current, and former Black campus members can identify themselves and build upon these legacies.
Whether through individuals, informal collectives, organizations, and campus units, Black life has always been a vital part of what makes UC Berkeley a leading institution in higher education. BLAC aims to ensure that contributions from Berkeley's Black community are celebrated, lifted, and remembered.
Thank you for supporting Black Lives @ Cal!
We’re so pleased to receive your support of Black Lives @ Cal! Your gift to BLAC has a ripple effect for the past, present, and future Black community at Cal and for the entire university.
In addition to funding graduate students to mentor undergraduate student researchers, gifts pay for the collection, preservation, digitization, and presentation of otherwise inaccessible artifacts and stories about Black history at Cal. BLAC thereby helps prospective, current, and former Black campus members to be familiar with, contribute to, and be recognized as part of Black history at Cal.
