The Prof. Johan Snapper Endowment for Dutch Studies

Your gift makes a difference

Professor Emeritus Johan Snapper launched the Dutch Studies program in 1971, and in the ensuing 50 years, the program has grown to be one of the most active at Berkeley. The Snapper Endowment supports the annual Snapper Lecture, bringing a prominent voice in Dutch Studies to lecture on an interdisciplinary Dutch topic. The inaugural lecture, "Transmitting Anne Frank to Gen Z", focused on Jewish and Dutch Studies, and the 2024 lecture focused on carillon bells in Dutch culture and their impact on America. Supporting the Snapper Endowment makes it possible to continue to bring important Dutch topics to the forefront of the university.

In order to preserve the spirit of the purpose of the fund, and the intent of the original donors who established it, new donors who make gifts to this endowment understand that changes may be made to the fund in the future if it ever becomes difficult to spend. Any future changes will be consistent with the original purpose as written here. As such, new donors agree upon making their gifts that any future potential change to the endowment purpose may be made without their consultation.
