The mission of UC Berkeley’s Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF) is to help people better understand the changing world through the analysis and visualization of spatial data. Since 2005, GIF has provided leadership, education, and research support across a broad array of integrated geospatial open science technologies.
The GIF team develops innovative, interactive, cloud-based web applications such as Cal-Adapt that make complex climate and other environmental data understandable and actionable for broad audiences. We help train students to embrace modern open science principles and tools for inclusive, accessible, and reproducible research. We collaborate with domain experts on campus, partner with industry, and co-produce tools and data through community engagement to bring world-class geospatial open science technology to UC Berkeley, the Bay Area, and beyond.
