The Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative (BIMI) proudly advances Berkeley’s mission through innovative research, training, and public outreach. Our affiliates study immigrants’ access to legal, health, and refugee services in the Bay Area and beyond; survey public opinion on immigration in California; and evaluate conditions in refugee camps abroad. 

We train many first-generation undergraduate students in data-driven research and hold a summer institute in migration research methods for the most promising young researchers in the nation. BIMI translates academic research for the public through policy briefs and stakeholder symposia.
