The African American Studies Annual Fund

Your gift makes a difference

The Department of African American Studies is an intellectual community committed to producing, refining, and advancing knowledge of Black people in the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and Africa. Our faculty maximize intellectual possibilities in the classroom, where each course ushers in new knowledge, new intellectual challenges, and new ways to understand the environment. Black Studies gives our students the tools to think critically about our past and present; to deeply engage with questions of history, freedom, and democracy; and to build a just planet. We know this task is more urgent now than ever.

Your support allows our department to continue providing the transformational student-centered programming and groundbreaking research that is central to our mission. Gifts to the Annual Fund provide students with the resources needed to succeed in college and their career, such as mentorship opportunities, travel learning experiences, and opportunities to conduct research. Your gift supports a vibrant intellectual community with visiting scholars and guest speakers, community-engaged programming, and faculty research.

With the first Ph.D. program in African Diaspora Studies, our department is widely considered one of the most prestigious in the country. Beyond our department, signature programs such as Black Graduation and our community partnerships extend our reach to the campus and local communities. Thank you for demonstrating your commitment to African American Studies at UC Berkeley.
