The Accountability Project (TAP) Fund

TAP has helped journalists do investigations on everything from who is buying up land to how states manage voter data. Our data is especially useful to small newsrooms that can’t afford expensive research tools.

TAP was originally launched by the Investigative Reporting Workshop at American University. Berkeley Journalism took over TAP in early 2026. Our students are working to expand TAP and find stories in our collection of more than 1.9 billion records. Your unrestricted gift will provide broad support to TAP, enabling us to hire students to work on TAP, acquire data to expand the collection, and keep our servers running.
