Your gift makes a difference
Led by the Academy-Award nominated director Jennifer Redfearn, the Berkeley Journalism Documentary Program is a dynamic space dedicated to non-fiction storytelling. We support emerging filmmakers in creating deeply researched, immersive, and emotionally impactful films. Through intensive hands-on training and close mentorship with award-winning filmmakers, students learn how to craft powerful visual stories that resonate with audiences and create real-world impact. Our industry connections provide opportunities for publishing, networking, and building relationships that prepare students for significant roles in the documentary field. Recently, our students have had their work published by The New Yorker, POV/PBS, and the Los Angeles Times Short Docs, and have screened their films at prestigious festivals like Sundance and Telluride. Our program stands out for its intimate class sizes, in-depth curriculum, and promise of nurturing the next generation of documentary filmmakers poised to make a lasting difference in the world.
