The immune system is nature’s most powerful weapon against disease. By focusing on fundamental scientific research to understand the immune system’s biochemical tools and signaling pathways, how the immune system recognizes invaders and how immune cells talk to one another, the Immunotherapeutics and Vaccine Research Initiative (IVRI) has the potential to discover new ways to selectively target and control many human diseases.

IVRI is a marriage of cancer immunotherapy and infectious disease immunology, where therapies and observations in one area can be applied to the other. This exciting enterprise teams UC Berkeley cancer immunologists with colleagues working on infectious diseases and is fueled by funding from founding partner, Aduro Biotech.
