Friends of the Silva Center

The mission of the Silva Center for Phycological Documentation is to develop, maintain, and share documentation in the field of algal systematics.

The Center includes an extensive library with an extraordinary collection of rare books and reprints. The Center is adjacent to the University Herbarium that houses a worldwide collection of seaweed specimens. Modern laboratories are just steps away. These facilities and resources make the Center the ideal place to conduct phycological research.

The Friends of the Silva Center support a wide array of activities including but not limited to:

  • Travel funds for students and scholars who wish to visit the Center
  • Maintenance of the library and archives
  • Curation of and research on the phycological collections
  • Imaging and databasing of new seaweed specimens

Membership Levels:
Annual Member: $45
Sustaining Member: $200
Lifetime Member $5,000 (one-time gift or pledge $1,000/year for five years)

All Members will be acknowledged online, receive updates about progress and projects in the Silva Center, and be invited to an annual gathering to share ideas and meet current staff and visitors.
